Animation 'De Schat Van Het Heksenwiel' [2024]

Together with my classmate and dear friend Floortje Urgert, I created an animated short film based on the Dutch folklore “The Treasure of the Witches’ Wheel,” set in the Haagse Beemden, neighborhood of Breda. Through field research, we explored the area and uncovered the origins of the legend, which is partly tied to the infamous “Bokkenrijders”, ghostly robbers known throughout the region. We told the story from the unique perspective of the treasure chest, giving a personal and unexpected voice to this local myth. I was responsible for the storyboard, co-wrote the storyline, and co-animated the film, while Floortje handled the sound design and final editing.

The project was created using Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, and Blender.

Artistic field research

As part of our artistic research, Floortje and I visited the pond known as the witches’ wheel, a place steeped in local legend. We explored the surrounding landscape, searching for traces of its story in the environment. Our journey also brought us to a house believed to be the “Hooghuis,” a site that seems to carry echoes of the past.
